Hello, I'm Yume K.

I am an educator and published author (Reserve the Right, Nomadic Press) who currently resides in San Francisco, California. I have a love for writing, especially poetry! I have previous experiences in teaching both Composition Writing and Creative Writing at De Anza College and The Art Institute of California - San Francisco campus. In the past, I often aim in providing a collaborative and fun learning environment for students. So, I am excited to teach for MixLife since I want to introduce the wonders of creative writing to even more students! My Educational Background: I am an alumni of San Francisco State University, where I earned both an M.A. in English and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. Additionally, prior to my graduate studies in San Francisco, I studied at George Mason University, where I earned my B.A. in English. Activities/Hobbies I enjoy: writing, reading attending literary open mic events, watching films/tv shows, tutoring, having conversations about good food/drinks, teaching, and hanging out with friends :)

I really enjoyed Yume's class! It had a nice pace, with time to write and see strong examples of performance poetry in addition to just performing. I left feeling more energized than when I started. Thanks Yume!

Yumi opened up for me a whole new perspective on poetry and how it's performed. She's passionate about what she teaches and let's you digest the information in your own way and on your own time. She inspires you to express yourself and learn from others as well.
