Lenny San Jose

Lenny, aka Ukulenny, is an ukulele performer and educator based in Oakland, CA. He received his training at UC Berkeley (B.A. in Music) and earned his teaching credential at Cal State East Bay. After teaching music in public schools for 5 years, he made the leap to becoming a full-time musician, performing and leading workshops.
An avid multi-instrumentalist, Lenny grew up playing piano and writing songs on his guitar. He played cello in the high school orchestra and saxophone in the Cal Band. In 2009 he fell in love with the ukulele and found it to be the easiest and most fulfilling instrument to teach. He appreciated that it was a very sociable instrument that didn’t take itself too seriously, and that people enjoyed playing the ukulele in large groups. He started his ukulele career on the BART train and eventually was leading commenters in song. His YouTube channel has since gained over 75,000 subscribers and 9.9 million views. A sponsored Kala Artist, he spearheaded the Learn to Play Program on Kala’s website and app, and continues to preach the ukulele gospel nationwide.
